Inspiring curiosity, building confidence and developing a lifelong love of learning.

At Beecroft Nursery School, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework, ensuring that children receive a high-quality education that meets all the requirements for their age and stage of development. Alongside this, we have developed our own ambitious, carefully planned curriculum that provides children with exciting opportunities to learn, explore and discover. We have high expectations for every child and are committed to giving them the very best start to their education.

Language, Communication and Reading

Books, stories and reading are at the heart of everything we do. We believe that developing strong language and communication skills is one of the most important foundations for future learning. Our curriculum is carefully planned to introduce children to a wide range of new words and vocabulary through stories, songs, conversations and meaningful experiences.

Children enjoy sharing high-quality books, listening to stories, joining in with rhymes and talking about what they have learned. Adults model language, encourage conversations and help children develop the confidence to express their thoughts and ideas. By making language and reading a priority across all areas of learning, we aim to develop confident communicators who have a genuine love of books.

Learning Through Play and Real-Life Experiences

We believe that children learn best through a careful balance of purposeful play, adult-led teaching and exciting first-hand experiences. Our curriculum provides opportunities for children to explore, investigate, ask questions and develop their understanding of the world around them.

Our extensive outdoor area is an important part of our learning environment. Children have daily opportunities to learn outdoors, explore nature, investigate the changing seasons and develop their knowledge of the world through practical, hands-on experiences. Outdoor learning and Forest School encourage curiosity, creativity, problem-solving and independence.

Developing Early Mathematical Understanding

We place a strong emphasis on developing children's early mathematical skills, particularly their understanding of numbers and how they work.

Through practical activities, games, songs and purposeful play, children develop a deep understanding of numbers, counting, patterns, shapes and measures. We encourage children to explore mathematical ideas, explain their thinking and solve simple, real-life problems.

Mathematics is woven throughout our indoor and outdoor provision, whether children are counting objects, comparing quantities, measuring in the water area or solving problems during play. Our aim is to build confident young mathematicians who enjoy exploring numbers and are well prepared for the next stage of their learning.

Music and Creativity

Music is a special part of life at our nursery. Our musically skilled teaching staff bring music to life through live instrumental playing, singing, rhythm and musical activities.

Children enjoy singing together, learning new songs, exploring instruments and developing their sense of rhythm and sound. Music also plays an important role in developing children's language, listening skills, memory and confidence.

Alongside music, children have regular opportunities to express themselves through art, imaginative play and creative activities.

Growing in Confidence and Independence

We have high expectations for every child and believe that developing positive attitudes and good habits from an early age is essential.

Through clear routines, consistent expectations and caring guidance, children learn to listen carefully, follow instructions, make good choices and treat others with kindness and respect.

We encourage children to become increasingly independent, take responsibility for their belongings, manage everyday tasks and develop positive friendships.

Everything we do is designed to prepare children for a happy and successful start to school. By the time children leave our nursery school, our aim is for them to be confident, curious and independent learners, with strong foundations in language, reading, mathematics and personal development, ready to embrace the exciting challenges of Reception and beyond.
